Isn't really only the moments?

I read a quote this weekend that has been stuck in my head ever since. The quote said something like..."at the end of a life you don't remember the days you only remember the moments." And at first I thought it was such a great quote but the more I think about it the less I'm really sure. I think that maybe it's a combination of both in reality. I don't remember every single day I have lived...thank goodness. But I do remember a lot of memorable moments throughout my life. But in fact, there are certain days when I have felt tremendous joy, happiness and love which I can remember from the start until the end. And there are days when I have experienced extreme loss and sadness that I have replayed from the beginning to end over and over again without comfort.

So the more I think about it...the joyful times stand out as moments I remember. Sadness and hurt stand out as days...that's interesting! How about you?

Joy stands out as seconds to me...sadness as centuries. Hmmm. I have a bad attitude, don't I!

I like this sentiment.

My moments are what I remember the most, unless it was a day that I felt so amazing and saw so much beauty or shared something special---I treasure those days.

it's still the MOMENTS that make the day stand out...so I think it is a good quote and pretty accurate. If you ask me, source of all accurate sayings. :)

I agree with you. Those grand moments seem to flit by so quickly, or we quickly become acustom to them and thus they seem not as shiny and grand any longer.

But the days of pain and sorrow, those I know I let linger long after I should.

I do like that quote but after this post I think I'm going to try and stretch the good moments and cherish them longer.

I think it is a combination of both for sure.

Hmmmm...That's a great quote actually. For me, I think I agree with the author of that quote.

For me, it's all defined by moments.

When I was a kid I would squinch my eyes shut and concentrate really hard so that I could remember my happiest moments, as they were happening. What's funny is that I kind of remember some of those moments, but mostly I remember trying so hard to keep them.

Now I just try to enjoy them in the moment and take more photos.

I tend to write the sad stuff down - so that I don't have to rehash it with other people, but can read it later so I don't forget.

It's all broken down to moments for me, with a few exceptions of extremely "low" points that will forever be embedded as weeks, months, sometimes years.

But yes- the moments are what make it all worthwhile, for me.

It's that whole "life isn't measured by the breaths you take but the moments your breath is taken away" thing... not true....at least, not always. :)

But isn't it the moments that your experiencing sadness what you're remembering? I mean, you're feeling the sadness for an entire day... so that's the moment. I personally don't think time exists in our memory, since we can travel along the line at will and be "unstuck in time", as Vonnegut would put it.
